Al-Hilal midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was ‘saddened’ by Lazio’s Supercoppa Italiana loss to Inter and admitted he misses the club.

The 28-year-old Serbian star ended an eight-year spell with the Biancocelesti in the summer, joining Saudi side Al-Hilal in a deal worth around €40m, penning a lucrative three-year contract. A fan favourite, his move came as a bitter blow to supporters in the Italian capital.

Milinkovic-Savic has continued performing well for Al-Hilal this season, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in 16 league games, and it’s clear that he is missed by Maurizio Sarri and his Lazio teammates.

Speaking to gathered reporters via Calciomercato.com, Milinkovic-Savic first reacted to Lazio’s 3-0 defeat to Inter in their Supercoppa Italian semi-final.

“Everything is fine. I was very saddened because I wanted to come on Monday to watch the final.”

The Al-Hilal midfielder was then asked if he misses the Biancocelesti.

“Of course I miss them, I was there for eight years. Yes, I saw some of my teammates.”

A handful of players who switched Europe for Saudi Arabia last summer, including Jordan Henderson and Karim Benzema, have started to grow unhappy in the Saudi Pro League, leading to the belief that there could be an exodus of stars in the summer.

  1. Man I miss him, our MVP alongside Luis Alberto, but together they are more than that.

I hope you come back when your contract runs down Sergeant 🫡
