Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik admits Juventus are favourites but “the title race is still open”.

The Partenopei were the Bianconeri’s closest challengers last season, but are already nine points behind as Serie A prepares to head into the winter break.

“Let’s see how the season goes,” Milik shrugged in an interview with Channel 21.

“They’ve won so much and they’re the favourites, but the title race is still open.”

Milik was also asked about his move to Italy this summer, as well as the challenge of replacing Gonzalo Higuain.

“When I was at Ajax, Napoli were really insistent about getting me. I was happy with the offer and I chose Napoli because I think this is the best choice for my career and my growth.

“Replacing Higuain? I wasn’t afraid, it’s another challenge. I don’t like comparisons, I’m Milik and I want to write my own story.

“Naples? The best thing is that there are great places near the sea, there wasn’t that opportunity where I’ve been before.

“When I go to the restaurant I choose a place by the sea, it’s very relaxing for me. I can’t say which restaurant I go to, otherwise a load of fans would turn up!

“The fans are very passionate, but it’s better not to say where I spend my free time!

“The Neapolitans are passionate, sometimes too much so, they want to hug you and hold you. I appreciate their support though.

“Neapolitan pizza? I’ll admit, it’s the best I’ve ever had. I like the Neapolitan cuisine, but I can’t say it’s conducive to the diet of a footballer!

“The pasta and mozzarella is very good, but you can’t eat it every day.”

The Polish international is sidelined with a knee injury, and was asked when he’ll return.

“It’s hard to give a specific date, with my time out I’m studying Italian and it’s getting better. It’s difficult to do an interview, but if I have to communicate with my teammates I can understand them perfectly.

“Am I worried about losing my place to Dries Mertens? I’m very happy about the period of form that Dries is in, he’s really doing well out there on the pitch.

“I’m glad he’s scoring, he’s my friend. I’m happy and looking forward to getting back on the pitch, so I’m happy with his magical form and that of the team.

“Players can cover different roles, when I’m fit again I’ll go back to the middle of the trident, but I repeat that I’m happy with the form of Napoli and Mertens.

“We know he’s not an out-and-out striker, he has usually played on the left but he’s proving to be a versatile player and that’s good for [Coach Maurizio] Sarri.”
