“I feel very good and can’t even remember how many days have passed since the injury,” Poland international Milik told Sky Sport Italia after ACL surgery.

“Now I can get back on to the pitch, even if just to run, and that makes me very happy. I am on the right track and my physiotherapist says so too. My knees are not getting swollen.

“I don’t know when I’ll be ready to work on the field with the ball, but hopefully as soon as possible. I don’t want to give a precise date, but it’ll definitely be in the New Year, because with these injuries you can never tell and it’s better to be prudent.”

As for tomorrow’s game, Raul Albiol returns from a lengthy lay-off and Jose Callejon has shaken off flu symptoms, but Gabbiadini misses the trip due to the injury that cut short his international duty.

Napoli squad for Udinese: Reina, Rafael, Sepe; Chiriches, Tonelli, Ghoulam, Hysaj, Koulibaly, Maksimovic, Maggio, Strinic, Raul Albiol; Allan, Diawara, Hamsik, Rog, Jorginho, Zielinski; Giaccherini, Callejon, Lorenzo Insigne, El Kaddouri, Mertens
