Should Milan win the Serie A title, Inter fans may be forced to quickly leave the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza after their match against Sampdoria to make space for the Rossoneri’s celebrations.

La Gazzetta dello Sport details how Lega Serie A hoped to bring forward Sassuolo-Milan and Inter-Sampdoria to Saturday May 21 at 15:00 local time, allowing for the official celebrations to take place the following day at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, regardless of the results.

This plan has collapsed, however, due to a big concert organised by Radio Italia in Piazza Duomo in Milan on Saturday. Obviously there would be significant policing and public order problems should a Milanese team win the title whilst the concert is taking place in such a public area, so the matches will have to be played on Sunday.

It’s likely that the two matches will kick off at 15:00 on the Sunday, but this could pose a problem. Should Inter win the title, there would be no issue as they’re already playing at home, but things get a little bit complicated if Milan secure the Scudetto.

The Meazza would have to be emptied of Nerazzurri fans in order to allow the Rossoneri fans the space to celebrate. Everything would be quickly transformed from Inter branding to Milan, something that precedent proves feasible.

Back in 2008, Inter celebrated their Scudetto on May 18 at the Meazza after beating Parma away in the afternoon. The stadium had hosted Milan-Udinese that afternoon and everything was quickly turned around ahead of the party.

Updates regarding this plan are expected in the coming days and contacts between the clubs and the police are constantly ongoing.

  1. @MC Miker G mathematically we haven’t won yet, but after yesterday’s game the scudetto is 100% won. We’ll thrash the remaining peasant teams lol. After 11 years we can celebrate again.

  2. Lorenzo, that is SERIOUSLY tempting fate. I agree that on paper the Verona game was maybe the most worrying – but Atalanta are playing for a European place so won’t be a pushover. I’m hoping that Cagliari can help us out a bit!

  3. AC Milan already won it with Radu`s howler against Bologna. A match that should have never been played in the first place (Bologna submitted squad list, failed to withdraw and failed to show up).

So better prepare for AC Milan celebr8tion.

  4. If Inter draw against Cagliari and Milan beat Atalanta then Milan could win the title this weekend!

2 point gap as it stands inter draw makes it a 1 point gap milan win get the 3 points it becomes a 4 point gap with one game to go. This is the best possible outcome! Forza Milan

  5. @I Miss I think that the biggest howler was collecting 7 points in 7 games and Inzaghi not knowing how to manage the squad with such a big lead. Radu is just the cherry on top.
But this isn’t over yet… Milan needs to take it one game at a time

  6. @Jcee the best possible outcome is inter loses against Cagliari which means they can only reach a max 81 points if they win last game such that even if we have drawn with Atalanta we are champions this very next weekend.

  7. “2 point gap as it stands inter draw makes it a 1 point gap milan win get the 3 points it becomes a 4 point gap with one game to go. This is the best possible outcome! Forza Milan

Tell us more, Mr. Math professor

  8. This clown is now the biggest Milan supporter despite them being their biggest rivals in the last 30 years. The clown also says it is better to have cholera then gangrene. How about neither.

  9. I think if they make inter match is the same time with Milan match next Sunday would be better, If milan win and inter draw , fans can celebrate easily in the same day

  10. I love people saying ” mark my words” because 9 out of 10 time’s they’re wrong!

Milan have won nothing, most Milan fans understand this and know we have two very tough game’s. I take nothing for granted but since we’ll finish top 2 , that in itself is a victory for Milan.
