Milan have released a “get well soon” message for their injured captain Riccardo Montolivo.

It was confirmed earlier today that the midfielder ruptured his cruciate ligament while playing for Italy last night, meaning at least six months on the sidelines.

“All of us here at AC Milan are very upset for what happened to our Captain,” the Rossoneri said in a statement.

“Today's news has brought us back to two years ago, when President Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani were watching live on tv the match with Ireland were Riccardo broke his shin bone, only a few weeks before the Brazil World Cup.

“It was a very tough moment. Nevertheless, two years later, Monto was one of the key players in the Coppa Italia final, a match that we unfortunately lost even after playing a great game.

“We know our Captain, and we are absolutely sure he will come back stronger. Riccardo, beloved son, husband and father, is now enjoying the love of his family. But also his red and black family wants to show him their affection.

“Get well soon, Riccardo!”
