Talking to Milan Channel on Friday, tough-tackling Van Bommel admitted that the team are keen to not repeat their mistakes in what is an important run of fixtures.
“This year, just like last, Milan-Napoli is a key game in the Scudetto race. After losing to Lazio we do not want to lose any more points in the standings.
“We are facing Napoli, Juventus, Udinese” data-scaytid=”19″>Udinese and Juventus again – I consider this period the most important in our season and I also want to score a goal.
“We are not happy when we don’t win because we know we fall further behind Juventus. The reaction has been positive and the squad knows it is important to learn from the defeat, so as to return to winning.”
Van Bommel also took time to reflect on a more positive element to the game in Rome, as it saw the Dutchman reach 500 career appearances.
“When I started as a footballer, I never thought of succeeding in reaching more than 500. I should be happy because I have suffered [with injury] and 500 is a good number.
“In my career I have played with many champions, but the name of the strongest is that of a player called Luc Nilis.
“We were at PSV and he was our playmaker with excellent feet. He knew how to take penalties, free-kicks and corners very well, but then his career was interrupted by a serious injury in which he also risked losing his leg.
“The hardest game I have ever played in? The World Cup final in 2010. The Netherlands did not play very well, but I know that we could have beaten Spain.
“When I get older I would love to be a Coach, but there is still time before that.”
