Milan have reportedly issued a hands-off warning to Barcelona, who were readying a €40m bid for club captain Alessio Romagnoli.

According to Tuttosport, Barca were also prepared to offer Milan a player in part exchange for Romagnoli.

Their interest in the defender comes after it was reported Matthijs de Ligt had preferred to move elsewhere.

However, the newspaper assures the Rossoneri abruptly closed the door on the Catalans, describing the chances of a sale as ‘absolutely impossible’.

The 24-year-old is about to start his fifth season at San Siro and is contracted to the Diavolo until 2022.
