Milan have started laying the groundwork to lock down star goalkeeper Mike Maignan to a new long-term contract.

The 28-year-old French shot stopper has been one of the best players at the club since his arrival from Lille in the summer of 2021, playing a crucial role in their Scudetto success. A key reason behind their drop last term was his mid-season calf injury, which kept him sidelined for months.

Maignan has continued to be one of Milan’s better performers this season, even after the team’s form nosedived following the October international break. His current contract lasts until June 2026.

As reported by Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Milan contacted Maignan’s entourage last month to understand his intentions before starting detailed contract negotiations. The French goalkeeper is keen to move forward with the club.

Rossoneri duo Geoffrey Moncada and Giorgio Furlani want to reward Maignan with a new long-term deal, doubling his current €2.8m net per season wages.

Exploratory talks will continue until February, when the two parties will sit down properly to work on the details of a deal.
