Luca Lucci, one of the leaders of Milan‘s ‘Ultra’ fan groups, has been sentenced to prison for drug trafficking offences.

Calciomercato.com details how Lucci was sentenced to seven years by Milan judge Chiara Valori as part of a drug trafficking trial, with offences relating to hashish, marijuana and cocaine. The Rossoneri ultra leader was arrested last December following an investigation carried out by Mobile Squad and prosecutor Leonardo Lesti.

Investigators alleged that Lucci was at the top of a criminal organisation that planned, but did not actively participate, the illegal trafficking of drugs through the Encrochat software, installed on a Dutch mobile phone.

The Milan ultra leader was a main contact and so maintained relations with drug traffickers in both Brazil and Mexico.

Ultras are a contentious part of Italian football, with many feeling their passionate support vital for maintaining a close local relationship with a club, whilst others raise concerns regarding criminal behaviour.
