The Emilia-Romagna club are demanding €20m plus €5m in bonuses for the 23-year-old – a fee that doesn’t appear to scare the Diavolo off as they would have had to pay more than that for Torreira if Arsenal were not interested in exchanging the Uruguayan for Franck Kessie.

New Milan technical director Paolo Maldini is said to be a big admirer of the Italy international and sees him as the perfect foil for Rade Krunic, who is set to arrive from Empoli for €8m.

The Cesena youth product arrived at the Mapei Stadium in 2016 and has made 68 appearances for Sassuolo during his stay, scoring five goals and providing five assists.
