Philippe Mexes could be heading to Arsenal in exchange for Nicklas Bendtner after France Coach Didier Deschamps said he might “leave Milan.”

The defender has dealt with injuries and poor form over the past year, while there doesn’t seem to be much trust in him after the Rossoneri lost Thiago Silva and Alessandro Nesta.

“I know Philippe well and he is part of the wider France squad,” said Deschamps.

“What is happening to him? I don’t know if he will leave Milan, as there is a particular situation going on with his club.”

Mexes flew out with the Milan side for the US tour on July 27 and returned on August 3 to be with his wife as she gave birth to their daughter. Ever since then, he has been training alone at Milanello.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Mexes could be used as part-exchange for Arsenal striker Bendtner.

The Danish international fits the bill of old-style centre-forward that the Rossoneri are looking for.

Milan would also be content to release Mexes, as he was signed from Roma on a free contract and has a very expensive contract worth €4.5m per season over three years.
