Milan say they are “strongly against” Serie A’s controversial, new anti-racism initiative and were “surprised by the total lack of communication.”

Lega Serie A unveiled its campaign to combat racism yesterday, but there has been widespread backlash over the decision to include monkeys.

Now, Milan have joined the increasing number of dissenting voices and hit out at the League for not passing the initiative before them.

“Art can be powerful, but we strongly disagree with the use of monkeys as images in the fight against racism and were surprised by the total lack of consultation,” they tweeted.

In an exclusve interview with Football Italia, artist Simone Fugazzotto stood by his controversial choice of works.
