Milan are continuing negotiations for Zenit’s Belgian international midfielder Axel Witsel, who is valued at €40m.

The 26-year-old creative midfielder has been at the Russian club since 2012, having previously played for Standard Liege and Benfica.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Rossoneri CEO Adriano Galliani will only fly out to St Petersburg for negotiations with the club once he has agreed personal terms with the player.

Galliani was in talks with Witsel’s father on Friday to prepare the groundwork for this transfer.

The price-tag might prove a problem, as Zenit seem adamant they won’t go below the €40m asking price.

Witsel has a contract with the club until June 2017.
