Romagnoli succeeds Riccardo Montolivo as the bearer of Milan’s armband, with the defender described by the Rossoneri as their ‘only light at the end of the tunnel’ after his new contract came amidst a turbulent summer at San Siro.
“Alessio Romagnoli was the only light at the end of the tunnel in the two most delicate months of the Rossoneri’s summer and is very popular with the fans,” justified the club in their weekly Press review.
“It’s directly proportional to the esteem he enjoys in the dressing room. Without calling into question what Nesta was like on the field, Alessio is as sober, dry, serious and disenchanted as ‘Sandro’ was off of it.
“It’s not a technical comparison, but rather one of character. That’s why the captain’s armband going to Alessio is a very good thing.”
