There are reports Alexander Merkel will be out for up to six weeks with a sprained knee, adding to Milan’s midfield injury crisis.

It’s suggested tests have shown a nasty sprain that will sideline the player for 30-40 days.

This would be a particularly bad blow for the Rossoneri, as Merkel was recalled on loan from Genoa – who co-own the player – to help assuage their injury crisis.

Alberto Aquilani, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Mathieu Flamini are all out for around a month, while it is not clear when Gennaro Gattuso will recover from an eye condition.
