Adriano Galliani said if Milan do sign someone tomorrow, “it will be a defender,” most likely Gabriel Paletta.
The Italian transfer deadline is on Monday at 22.00 GMT.
“We have six midfielders, so if anything needs to be done it will be a defender,” the CEO told Sky Sport Italia.
“We have three long-term injury absentees, De Sciglio, Bonera and Zapata, plus Mexes who is suspended.”
Galliani was asked whether the newcomer would be Parma centre-back Paletta.

“We’ll see, we’ll see. There is nothing certain. If a player were to arrive tomorrow, clearly it would be a defender.”
Paletta had been close to Sampdoria and is another of those likely to leave Parma due to the on-going financial instability at the club.
According to Sky Sport Italia and Sport Mediaset, Milan have offered €0.4m to take Paletta off Parma on a three-and-a-half-year contract.
The other option is Ezequiel Munoz, but Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini said he’d rather let the defender “rot in the stands” than sell him for a minimal fee.
