Milan have confirmed that goalkeeper Mike Maignan has sustained a new lesion of the right calf muscle, so will be out of action for at least another 10 days, and it is not a relapse, but the other leg.

The France international sustained a left calf strain during international duty last month and was due to make his comeback this weekend against Monza in Serie A.

However, he suffered another problem during training this morning and the results of tests have now shown there is a new lesion to the other leg, the right soleus muscle.

Maignan will be re-evaluated in 10 days’ time, which means he will be out of action for at least another two weeks.

He had only just spoken to the media at Monday’s Gran Gala del Calcio about the need to avoid rushing his comeback because this was an injury prone to relapses.

However, if it is the other leg that has sustained an injury, that really does put Maignan’s participation in the 2022 World Cup with France at serious risk.

  1. Never mind Serie A (manageable matches) and the World Cup (will be second choice anyway) but we might be in serious trouble in CL now. I mean we already are but without Mike it’s gonna be tough winning the next two matches against Dinamo and Salzburg.

  2. Mike is vital to our style of play – pressing and playing out from the back. You’re right, this makes UCL all the more difficult. No excuses, though. We are Milan and we should be able to win those two games.

  3. Mike wouldn’t have played in CL anyway – he was replaced by Tatarusanu for a month and wouldn’t be eligible for CL even if he was healthy.
