Milan have given up on Zenit St Petersburg's Axel Witsel, say reports, as the asking price remains too high.

The Belgian was one of the first mercato targets for the Rossoneri, and recent rumours suggested that their interest had been rekindled.

However the Russian club's demand of €35m is deemed excessive by the club, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport, as they were willing to offer a maximum of €25m.
