Divock Origi was jeered by some sections of the Milan supporters when substituted after another disappointing performance against Empoli.

The Belgium international was given a rare start, but failed to make much of an impact on the Serie A match other than missing a few opportunities.

He was a free agent after his contract with Liverpool ran down over the summer and will turn 28 later this month.

Rossoneri fans are losing patience with Origi, who has scored only two goals and provided one assist in 27 competitive matches for the club.

When he was on target, it was in a futile situation, either the 4-1 win over Monza on October 22 or a 5-2 home defeat to Sassuolo on January 29.

As he was coming off for Olivier Giroud this evening, a section of the San Siro crowd jeered Origi’s name.

That attitude was reflected on social media too, where he was referred to as a waste of money and a huge disappointment who had contributed nothing this season.

The Diavolo are fresh from a 4-0 win over Napoli and have reached the Champions League quarter-finals, but there is no doubt their reserve players are nowhere near the same level as the first-choice XI.
