The imminent sale of Sandro Tonali and the failure to sign Marcus Thuram has reignited tensions between Milan fans and owner Gerry Cardinale.

The Rossoneri have been slowly declining since their Scudetto success back in the 2021-22 season. They barely scraped a top four finish this campaign, given a helping hand by Juventus’ 10-point deduction, but found a little more joy in the Champions League, where they reached the semi-finals.

The season ended with some optimism amongst Milan fans, especially after star man Rafael Leao penned a new long-term contract, but that quickly changed. Technical director Paolo Maldini was unexpectedly dismissed by Cardinale earlier this month, news that didn’t land well amongst supporters.

As highlighted by Corriere dello Sport via TMW, recent market developments have create further rifts between Milan fans and the club’s owner Cardinale. Tonali – a boyhood Rossoneri fan – will complete a circa €80m move to Newcastle United in the coming days.

This, coupled with the news that Inter are closing in on a deal for free agent Marcus Thuram, has infuriated supporters, who again have made #CardinaleOut trend on Twitter.

It will take some serious work from Cardinale and RedBird to mend the relationship with the Rossoneri faithful now.
