Zenit St Petersburg have so far failed to clinch a deal, despite negotiations dragging on for weeks, and Milan have now intercepted.

Multiple sources including Sportitalia now claim the Rossoneri are getting closer to an agreement for around €15m.

They already have a strong rapport with Genoa and that could well prove decisive, because the Grifone still owe Milan €11m for Gianluca Lapadula.

The centre-forward was signed a year ago for a €2m loan with obligation to buy for another €11m.

Milan also still own Andrea Bertolacci, who spent last term on loan at Genoa and is eager to return.

Laxalt contributed four goals and three assists in 34 competitive appearances for the Rossoblu last season.
