Milan directors Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada awarded a medal to Stefano Pioli to celebrate his 200 matches as Milan head coach.

The 58-year-old Rossoneri coach hit the milestone during a night he’d rather forget, the team’s painful 3-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Whilst things have been difficult in Europe this term, it’s a different story in Serie A, where Milan sit just a point behind league leaders Inter.

Pioli guided Milan to the Scudetto in the 2021-22 season and took them to the Champions League semi final last season. Since his arrival in October 2019, the Italian coach has averaged 1.9 points per match across his 200 games in charge.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Milan directors Furlani and Moncada celebrated Pioli’s milestone before a training session in Milanello, awarding him a medal in commemoration.

Furlani discussed the achievement, saying: “The 200 appearances are just a small victory, the next mini milestone will arrive around February when you will surpass Sacchi’s 220 games, but above all the great milestone will be in May when we all hope to celebrate.”

Pioli responded humbly, stating: “I couldn’t have reached this milestone without the support of the club and without your moral, professional and technical qualities.”

The coach currently sits 20 games behind Arrigo Sacchi and 60 behind Nils Liedholm in the all-time rankings. He is far off the top spot, which is held by Nereo Rocco with an incredible 459 games managed.
