Rossi was only hired in December as a replacement for Ciro Ferrara. Doria are in the relegation zone after picking up only two wins and nine points from their 12 games.

Mihajlovic, 44, is a former player at Sampdoria who has Serie A coaching experience with Bologna, Catania and Fiorentina.

Samp’s next two games are against Lazio and Inter – two clubs who the former defender and midfielder appeared for during his career.

Eugenio Corini and Zdenek Zeman have also been paired with the Marassi outfit in recent weeks.
