The Coach was fired by Rossoneri President Silvio Berlusconi in April, despite reaching the Coppa Italia Final.

“They wanted a Coach who had character. When you bring in Mihajlovic, you know what you’re getting,” he told the Corriere dello Sport.

“You can’t hire Mihajlovic and then think you can do whatever you want. There can be exchanges of opinions, but I am the one who makes the decisions. I tried to bring a work ethic back to the locker room and I achieved that.

“In the first few games we wasted time, because Berlusconi wanted us to play 4-3-1-2 and I tried, but it was clear we couldn’t work like that.

“Berlusconi twice came to the Milanello training ground and urged me to play Diego Lopez instead of Gianluigi Donnarumma. He didn’t want Alessio Romagnoli. M’Baye Niang never used to play, but I got the best out of him.

“Take those three players away from the current Milan and they wouldn’t be where they are now.”

The Serbian tactician is impressing at Torino and they are becoming firm contenders for Europa League qualification.

“I get along well with (Torino President Urbano) Cairo. He is ambitious. I didn’t want to come to Torino just to focus on mid-table safety, as one must always raise the bar.

“I feel an affinity with the Granata history because Torino is suffering, blood and passion, but we also want to play beautiful football.

“When I arrived, I was the only one talking about Europe. I said it, I believed it and now I’m glad the directors and fans are starting to say it too.”
