“The derby is always an important game regardless of the table,” said the Rossoneri Coach in his Press conference.

“For us it is one of the last chances to target the top spots, while Inter need a win to stay up there. What do I envy Inter? Their position in the table, as it is better than ours.

“The derby is like an elevator – you go to the top or head straight for the basement. We have all the quality needed to win tomorrow night.

“We always go for the victory and I certainly won’t go into this thinking about a draw.”

Milan have actually been on better form over the last eight rounds, picking up 13 points compared to Inter’s 11.

“To be fair, that’s not saying much,” laughed Mihajlovic. “In the last few games they’ve been wobbling, but in the derby form doesn’t matter. The winner will have more courage, hunger and make fewer mistakes.

“We could’ve had an extra six or seven points in the table and it’s our fault if we don’t. Inter are very clinical, that is one of their main characteristics.

“A victory would give us great enthusiasm and confidence. Right now we have our identity, it’s just that we struggle to finish off games when in control. Milan are a tough side to beat. In the last 17 games we’ve won 10 and lost only two.”

This week Barbara Berlusconi said the Rossoneri should target Europa League qualification rather than the Champions League.

“Looking at the table she is right, but if at the end of the day things go even better then she’ll be happier.”

Inter have been very active on the transfer market and Mihajlovic affectionately mocked his old club.

“I’ve lost count of how many players Inter signed. The Panini album will have to introduce more pages to make room for all their stickers. Jokes aside, Eder is a great player and we must compliment Inter on a great buy. I wish he’d only arrived on Monday, mind you…”
