Fabrizio Miccoli says whoever wins between Benfica and Juventus wins the Europa League, as he explains why he’ll be cheering for the Portuguese.

The diminutive striker represented both clubs earlier in his playing career and has cast an eye on their Europa League semi-final first leg to be played this evening at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.

“To me Benfica-Juventus is like a final and I believe that the winner will take home the trophy,” Miccoli has commented in today’s edition of the Corriere dello Sport.

“Sevilla and Valencia are very strong, but they are a level below.

“I’m very attached to Benfica, I played in the Champions League with them and scored several goals, and won a Super Cup.

“From the very start I established a good relationship with the fans of the Aquile, while those of the Bianconeri hate me…

“Who will I be supporting? Juventus sent me away, Benfica took me, it is easy to understand where the heart is.

“I have always been sincere – had it not been Benfica then I would be cheering Juventus because they are an Italian team, but the heart says Benfica, they treated me very well in Lisbon.

“I do not think Benfica will be distracted from celebrating their League title win, they are a team used to winning.

“Both teams dream of it and both have the means to be able to win the Europa League.”
