Dries Mertens is not sure Napoli are a stronger side compared to last season and reveals how Victor Osimhen can help the Azzurri.

“We have plenty of motivations,” the Belgian said in a press conference on the eve of Napoli's Europa League clash against Az Alkmaar.

“It is not easy when you change system, there are also difficult moments, we are still working.

“AZ are a strong team with very strong young players and a great future, if you are not smart you can also lose and concede many goals.”

Mertens insists winning the Europa League is among Napoli’s targets this season.

Inter reached the final last season. It’s not easy, but it’s an important trophy for us and for many players. We have many and they are all hungry to play".

The Belgian however, is not sure Napoli are a stronger side compared to last season.

“Yes and no,” he said.

“We must not forget that we haven’t only signed new players, we’ve also lost some of them. The more we work together, the stronger we become.

“The most important thing is to work and we are working well, every day we grow".

Victor Osimhen is among the new faces who have been helping the Azzurri in this first part of the season.

“He gives us depth, we noticed it with Atalanta. Hirving Lozano and him brought the defence away and I was able to touch more balls, but there are also other players.

“When there is a cross we have more players in the box, this was the weakness of last year.”

Napoli had spent a week in a bubble after that two of their players testes positive for Covid-19.

"It’s bad, we stayed there and when I can’t go out I’m not well.

“Not going to the National team was also bad but we have to accept it. We started well and we have to win other games".
