The winger was knocked unconscious whilst on international duty with Beglium against Wales this week, and the Belgians’ team doctor later revealed the concern that surrounded the clash.

Whilst it has been ruled as concussion, Tuttosport report that Mertens is unlikely to feature for club side Napoli in their upcoming fixtures.

The Turin publication speculate that the 27-year-old is still feeling the side effects of the concussion, namely ‘persistent ringing’ in the head and difficulty in walking.

Tuttosport suggest that everything points to Mertens sitting out at least the upcoming games with Cagliari and Sparta Prague.
