Dries Mertens considers his Napoli future, change of position based on Belgium and challenging for the Scudetto.

The striker’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, so he could in theory begin negotiating with a new club from January.

“I am at Napoli, that is my future,” he told Tuttomercatoweb after Belgium’s 4-0 Euro 2020 victory in San Marino.

He was asked if he’d like a return to a wide role at Napoli, the one he still holds for Belgium even after his success as a False 9 at club level.

“I’d like that too, we’ll see what we can do. I am very happy that Romelu Lukaku is in Serie A and feel he’ll be important for Inter. They can become a great team with him leading the attack.”

Juventus have won the Serie A title eight times on the trot, but Mertens has hope.

“The Bianconeri made a lot of good signings and remain a strong team, but even today it’s still hard to swallow our 4-3 defeat to Juve.”
