Dries Mertens is reportedly close to a Napoli renewal, but it’s being delayed by image rights.

The Belgian winger has started the season in fine form, scoring twice to rescue a draw against Pescara in Week 1 of Serie A and also impressing against Milan.

According to SportMediaset, Martens is close to signing a new contract which will see him remain with the Partenopei until 2020.

The only remaining stumbling block is thought to be the issue of image rights, a common problem for Napoli.

Club President Aurelio De Laurentiis insists on image rights being transferred to the club, meaning players must cancel all existing sponsorship and appear in promotional material, such as the yearly calendar.

However, it’s not thought the issue is insurmountable, and Mertens is expected to extend his stay at San Paolo.
