The Belgium chief medic revealed at one stage the player couldn’t feel or move his legs and his return to Italy was delayed by several days to ensure he wa snot placed in danger.

Mertens resumed training last week and is in the squad to face Sampdoria, although it remains to be seen if he will start.

Michu is out for at least two months following ankle surgery, while Juan Camilo Zuniga and Lorenzo Insigne are also sidelined.
