Genoa President Enrico Preziosi this week claimed that Milan had asked for Merkel to return to San Siro, but the patron insisted he is going nowhere.

“I’m happy that the two clubs are talking about me,” said the 19-year-old to Sky Sport Italia on Thursday.

“Saying that, I am also very happy to be here at Genoa and they are the only thing on my mind right now.”

The teenager, who was signed by Milan’s youth sector scouts, has started six games in Serie A for Genoa this term – totalling 517 minutes of action.
