Walter Mazzarri says his Torino players had to ‘overcome insecurities’ in order to beat Cagliari.

The scores were still level heading into the second half at the Sardegna Arena, but Iago Falque’s strike opened the floodgates and the Granata eventually ran out 4-0 winners.

“We suffered in the first half. Then, being the important team we are, we played and deservedly won,” Mazzarri told a Press conference after seeing his side end a run of four consecutive defeats.

“I would have preferred to only score once and to have scored three more in the last match.

“Jokes aside, we have worked hard, we changed formation and it needed time to understadnd things better.”

Former Napoli, Inter and Watford boss Mazzarri explained how an offensive tacticial switch made the difference in Sardinia.

“We changed something during the interval. We changed to having a trequartista and two forwards, even before Ljajic came on and Baselli was more advanced.

“Straight away, we started to play well and create. Then, after the first goal the team finally started to play football and overcome the fear we had.

“Against Fiorentina at home, we made too many errors which weren’t present today. We had some insecurities that were overcome after we went ahead.

“We have a lot of quality up front. We need a little bit of time to understand how to play in order to find the right balance.”
