Walter Mazzarri reveals Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini tested positive for COVID: ‘We wanted to win against Juventus for him.’
The Sardinians suffered a 2-0 loss at the Allianz Stadium on Tuesday, but the former Torino coach believes his side could have obtained a better result against the Bianconeri.
“We deserved a draw, it’s never easy to play in this stadium,” he said at a post-match press conference attended by Football Italia.
“We played very well in the second half, we deserved something more, but the guys showed a reaction. If we always play like this, we’ll be able to get out of this situation.”
Cagliari had an extra motivation to collect at least one point in Turin.
“President Giulini tested positive for COVID just before the match. He wanted to be here and we wanted to him for him. I hope he feels well. Hopefully, we can turn things around from next year.”
