Walter Mazzarri assures there was no need for revenge as Torino beat his old club Inter. “My career speaks for me and I have nothing to prove.”

This was the first time the tactician had faced them since he was fired in November 2014 and Adem Ljajic, another former Nerazzurri man, got the only goal.

“I am happy that we won after a period that was not easy for us,” Mazzarri told Sky Sport Italia.

This was the first time the tactician had faced them since he was fired in November 2014 and Adem Ljajic, another former Nerazzurri man, got the only goal.

“I am happy that we won after a period that was not easy for us,” Mazzarri told Sky Sport Italia.

“I was curious to see how we’d perform against a really big team. The new tactics with three at the back and three strikers had to be verified against an opponent of this level. It proves that if we all run together and remain organised, we can get a result against anyone.”

Mazzarri inherited the side from Sinisa Mihajlovic and took a couple of months to get to know his players before moving to his favoured three-man defence.

“We are still a work in progress. It’s not simple to work out the characteristics of your players when you take over mid-season. Losing the derby to Juventus hit our confidence, but the four defeats in a row weren’t as bad as the results made them look.”

The former Inter tactician was asked if he enjoyed taking revenge on the club that fired him.

“My career speaks for me and I have nothing to prove, nor the need for revenge. You just have to look at the quality of the squads I worked with and the results I achieved with them.”
