Walter Mazzarri admits Napoli are now targeting the Scudetto. “We are going beyond all expectations and anything can happen now.”

The Coach had until now been careful not to mention a title push, but after leap-frogging Inter to go into second place, just three points shy of leaders Milan, he cannot resist it any longer.

“We are going beyond all expectations and anything can happen now,” he told television show Chiambretti Night.

“We will try to go as high as possible and then see where we are at the end of the season.

“All this is not just down to the Coach, as when there are years like this it means all the areas of the team and club worked together at their best.”

Mazzarri is a fiery character from the Tuscan town of Livorno and has often run into trouble for his forthright stance.

“In the world of football people aren't used to hearing someone who says what he thinks. There is so much hypocrisy.

“That's fine with me, as Coaches who are too likable end up not being feared by opponents.

“I'm not capable of faking humility. I tend to get along with those I like too. I have been given this reputation as someone who causes a lot of problems with colleagues, but the truth is many comments were made by others and I only responded.”

Mazzarri has been heavily linked with taking the Juventus job next season, where he'd reunite with ex-Sampdoria director general Beppe Marotta.

“There were some debates with Marotta because he was unaccustomed to a Coach who played the three-man defence. Now he knows full well what to expect of me, so we wouldn't have a problem if we worked together again.

“However, that does not mean I am going to Juve.”
