Walter Mazzarri feels Inter’s first real test of the summer went “better than expected” in a 1-1 draw with Hamburg.

Mauro Icardi scored after 73 seconds in this afternoon’s German friendly.

“In all honesty, it went better than expected,” the Coach told Inter Channel.

“It’s a shame we conceded that goal at the start of the second half, which I think was the only real scoring opportunity we allowed our opponents.

“Absurdly, we gave them a little more room in the first half, but did better after the break and still ended up conceding. That’s football for you.

“At this time the result is worth only a certain amount, as the important thing was the strong performance, which was not easy in the circumstances, as Hamburg cut in from the wings and push forward with four players.

“I am happy with the way this group is growing. Obviously there were a few hiccups that we will correct, but if we continue like this then I am happy with our daily progress.”
