Walter Mazzarri praised Inter’s perseverance and President Erick Thohir after a last-ditch 1-0 win over Sampdoria.

Mauro Icardi converted a penalty in the final minute to end Samp’s unbeaten Serie A record.

“Today we put in a great performance, often pegging back a Samp side that hadn’t lost yet this season,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We created so many scoring opportunities and once again our big fault was not converting them. I am happy with my players.

“Palacio had this injury and has never been at 100 per cent fitness this season. I hope he’s saving all his goals for the next game.”

Mazzarri was asked about the half-time jeers from the San Siro crowd, but shrugged off the question.

“I didn’t hear them. Everyone knows I go into the locker room just before the break. We accept, but are happy with these players who gave heart and soul. They were completely exhausted at the end and played some great football.
“I really do feel that this is becoming my team.”

President Thohir has backed Mazzarri numerous times, even against the views of former owner Massimo Moratti.

“He looked at the work without preconceptions. When you start a new project almost from scratch, I think you have to expect some things won’t work straight away. Within the side you can see the lads are responding and we all have clear ideas.”
