Genoa had a goal disallowed for offside against 10-men Torino during the 1-1 match, eventually ending in a penalty shoot-out at the Grande Olimpico.

The Granata went through on penalties and Mazzarri admitted it was a tough match against the Rossoblu.

“I always push my lads, even when they play as well as at Roma,” Mazzarri told Torino Channel. “It was hard against Genoa”.

The coach said the “heavy pitch” didn’t do them any favours, as they were trying to cope without a long list of players out injured.

“We had seven injuries, two semi-unavailable and Verdi out [suspended]. We had to pay for the fatigue and the heavy pitch that didn’t help us when we needed to impose our game on them.

“We did it anyway, we created a lot and deserved the win.”
