The Granata head into today’s clash in tenth place in Serie A and need to win in Bergamo if they are to keep any realistic hopes of Europa League qualification alive.

And Mazzarri, who has seen his team take four points from recent home matches with Milan and Inter, believes his team can compete against any opposition.

“I recent matches we have shown we can compete as equals with anyone,” Mazzarri said at a Press conference.

“Unfortunately for this match we have quite a lot of suspensions and injuries.

“Like I have always said, the next match is the most important. We need to go out onto the pitch convinced of what we can do.

“Atalanta are a team who did marvellous things last season. It’s a shame they went out of Europe given the way they played.

“We need to consider them as a team of the highest quality, we need to go to Bergamo prepared and with the mindset that we are facing a big club.

“Gasperini is a great Coach who has always done well when he has been given the chance to work.”

Mazzarri was again asked about the form of Andrea Belotti, who missed a penalty in Toro’s midweek draw with Milan.

“He was just unlucky that the ball didn’t go in by about five centimetres. If a great forward doesn’t score in every match it also means that the team aren’t helping him to get goals.

“It is never the fault of any one given player.”
