Maxi Lopez is already looking forward to his January move to Milan. “I’ll help Zlatan Ibrahimovic win the Champions League.”

The Catania striker is widely expected to be signed while Antonio Cassano recovers from heart surgery.

“I am grateful to Catania for all they have given me. As long as I am here, I will always give my best for them,” he told the Corriere dello Sport.

“It is a great joy for me to be linked with Milan, as I grew up in Buenos Aires watching Serie A and admiring the Rossoneri. If the interest is real and Catania are open to it, then I feel ready to make the most of this opportunity.

“I like pressure, as that is where you see the real champions. I can do well, have reached my full football maturity and feel that I can take this chance. Replacing a star like Cassano is a responsibility that I would like to shoulder.”

Maxi Lopez has a particular target to share with potential new teammate Ibra.

“I already won the Champions League with Barcelona in 2006. If I come to Milan, then I’ll do everything possible to help Ibrahimovic win the Champions League, as he deserves it.

“Along with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, I’d say Milan are currently among the strongest teams in the world.”

The Argentine could also in theory begin his international career for Italy.

“I would certainly think about it. Playing for the Azzurri would be an honour.”
