There are reports Stefano Mauri’s season is over due to an ankle problem, but the Lazio medics insists “it’s premature to say that.”

The midfielder has been struggling with a recurring ankle injury throughout the campaign and today some sites suggested he would not recover in time for the Coppa Italia Final against Roma on May 26.

“If the lad was called up in the squad on Sunday, then it means he was fit enough to be in the squad,” assured Lazio chief medic Stefano Salvatori.

“Yesterday he had a check-up in Munich and, along with Doctor Wohlfahrt, worked out a rehabilitation plan. Stefano will therefore not be available this Sunday.

“At this moment, though, it’s premature to say his season is over. I won’t rule out that next week he could be back in training and perhaps be available for the game after that.”
