“I was 13 when I got a trial [for Parma],” Mauri recalled in an interview with goal.com.

“It was a matter of pride, following a dream. I was lucky, I came here at 14, I couldn’t speak Italian but I was lucky enough to find good people who helped me to get where I am.

“Here in Italy you get the best tactical education, you learn every day, and even mentally you work very hard.

“Sometimes it still seems impossible. I come home, turn on the TV, I see Roma-Parma and I’m among the players on the field.

“As for the financial situation, it’s very difficult, there are so many things wrong, but fortunately the fans are calm and that encourages us – thank goodness, or we’d go mad.

“I thought I’d stay at Parma for many years, but now I see what’s going on. It’s bad that Parma has gotten into such a bad situation, it’s one of the most well-known teams in Italy.

“I want to know what will become of Parma, and in the event that there’s nothing more that can be done I’ll find a new club.

“For the moment I’m grateful to Parma, and not thinking about other clubs. On March 20 we’ll know more about my future, and that of my teammates.”
