Shakhtar Donetsk defender Mykola Matvienko said ‘thanks’ to Romelu Lukaku and claimed the Ukrainians ‘deserve’ a place in the Europa League.
The Nerazzurri pushed to the last second against Shakhtar in their last fixture of Group B in the Champions League.
But the 0-0 draw means Inter finished bottom and are out of Europe, whilst Shakhtar qualified for the last 32 in the Europa League.

“Inter wanted to win, be we wanted it too,” Matvienko told Futbol TV. “We can probably say that the result is positive and that Shakhtar deserve to play in the Europa League next spring.
“During the game, we missed a few opportunities. In hindsight we regret what we could have done here.
“Thanks to Lukaku, he helped us stop one of the last shots that hit the target.”
