La Real arrive in Campania for the decisive match in the Europa League tonight and will debut the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, named after the Argentine legend who died on November 25 this year.

The mayor said it’s a proud moment for the Neapolitans after completing the name change in just one week, but the official ceremony must wait due to coronavirus.

“Today the first match will be played in the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona,” De Magistris told Radio CRC.

“It will be a great emotion that the city will live together and as an administration we are proud to have immediately interpreted the popular sentiment and translated it into formal acts in record time.

“In just one week we completed the entire administrative process, also with the opinion of the prefecture.”

The mayor of Naples also confirmed that there will be an official ceremony when the coronavirus pandemic makes it possible.

“For an official ceremony, we must wait to be able to allow the participation of citizens and therefore wait for the cage of COVID restrictions to loosen.”
