The outspoken former defender sparked an angry reaction from former teammate Lucio this week by suggesting that he should retire.

On from that, Matrix has considered the worsening relationship with the Brazilian.

“I saw in his reaction things that perhaps had long been on the tip of the tongue,” reflected Materazzi to Mediaset today.

“His was a story I have already told you several times, that I am always going to be grateful to him for helping me win.

“A player who has won a World Cup should not be discussed.”

Materazzi discussed a number of topics, including Erick Thohir’s early work as Inter President, which has been hit with criticism of his distance from Italy for long periods.

“He is talking to everybody, getting to know everything, he is not taking any hasty decisions and I think that is a sign of intelligence.

“Getting all upset now and again, starting over halfway through a season, is never easy. From next year, we will see the true value of the President.

“I am sorry for those at this moment who are not painting him well. Moratti had a family here, but he was not always with us every day.

“Who can the club base their team around? Handanovic, Guarin, Palacio and Hernanes, to win the Champions League.

“Mazzarri? He is never wrong, where he has been he has done well. He should be given the opportunity to go on with a solid base for the following year.

“Is the team’s crisis over after successive wins? I hope so. They were two important wins, especially that against Fiorentina, where Inter played a great game.”

The 40-year-old also commented on his message posted recently on Twitter in support of Paolo Cannavaro, for his struggles at Napoli under former Inter boss Rafa Benitez.

“In that case I relived what I went through at Inter under Rafa Benitez. Maybe I did not deserve to play ,but not to be treated as I was, or how John Terry was [at Chelsea last season under Benitez too].

“I defended Paolo because he is a friend of mine. I have never had a good relationship with Benitez.”

Materazzi was also asked for his opinion on Mario Balotelli.

“Balotelli? Only those who live these moments can have the strength and intelligence to be able to raise themselves. It is up to him to help himself, in life no-one helps you.”
