Valter Birsa is confident Milan teammate Alessandro Matri will soon start to ripple the net with regularity.

The striker joined the club from Juventus in August after an €11m transfer fee was agreed between the two sides.

However, the Italian has yet to open his account for the Diavolo after making four Serie A appearances and one in the Champions League.

“Matri has shown that he is a great player,” the Slovenian midfielder told Milan Channel. “He will net with time and then he’ll score a lot…”

Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri also spoke confidently about the player after he failed to score in the 3-3 at Bologna.

“We have got to improve in defence, but also in attack, seeing as we only convert about 30 per cent of our scoring opportunities,” the tactician stated.

“Matri played for the team and I hope he can break his duck on Saturday. If he continues like this, the goal will come.”
