Nemanja Matic will continue his adventure with Roma beyond this season as an automatic contract renewal clause is a step away from being activated.

The 34-year-old Serbian midfielder joined the Giallorossi on a free transfer in the summer after leaving Manchester United on a free transfer, ending a five-year spell in the North West of England.

Matic has proven himself to be an important part of Jose Mourinho’s squad in the Italian capital and has featured in all 18 of their Serie A games this season.

As reported by TMW, Matic could make his 19th appearance of the Serie A season in the upcoming game against Spezia, which would trigger an automatic one-year contract extension.

Even if he doesn’t play, it’s clear that Roma are happy with the veteran’s work and are keen to retain him for another season.

Matic and Mourinho have already worked together twice in the past, first at Chelsea and then Manchester United.
