Empoli Coach Giovanni Martusciello has hit back at his critics, telling them to end their ‘personal attacks’ on him.

The Azzurri are third from bottom of Serie A, having won just one of their ten League game so far this season. This has prompted criticism of the 45-year-old, who only became the club’s boss in the summer.

“People should judge me for what I am, but not from a personal point of view,” Martusciello said at Press conference as his side prepare to face Roma.

“If you do more than that then it’s a personal attack and I don’t deserve that.

“I am the first person not to be happy with the way results are going, but if you think exaggerating the negatives will give us an advantage, go ahead.”

The tactician then discussed Sunday’s meeting with the Giallorossi, admitting that his team face a difficult afternoon’s work.

“We need to look to play openly, with calmness. We know that Roma are stronger than us, so we need to sweat and toil, but also suffer.

“They will make us run, we need to respond well in order to bridge the gap that separates us.”
