Lazio have complained about refereeing errors after two Miroslav Klose goals were disallowed in the 1-0 defeat to Empoli.

“Referees? I have faith in the officials and believe at the end of the year errors balance out for everyone. At the end of the season, the team that deserves it is on top of the table.

“So far this term we’ve been penalised by the many injuries that forced the Coach to not always use the best line-up.

“We are happy with what we did over the summer and I don’t think there will be any big opportunities to pounce on in January. There are opportunities, but not something we could call a lifesaver.”

Marotta was asked about suggestions Morata will go back to Real Madrid after he was benched for the fourth game in a row.

“I think the evaluation has to be made over several years. He is young and last season did very well. It’s natural to have peaks and troughs at his age and it’s the responsibility of the Coach to deal with him in the best way.

“He is an important player, someone whose promise turned to reality, but we have many excellent players in attack and Allegri decides who to play.”

Speaking of the Coach, there were also rumours Manchester United were interested in taking on Allegri for next season.

“These are reports, but he has a contract with us.”
